Bill R. Milam

Bill R. Milam, 78 of 809 N. Madison St. in Benton, died at 8:55 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Milam was born Oct. 6, 1922 in Sullivan, Ind., the son of Charles Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Spencer) Milam. He married Betty Hiatt on Oct. 14, 1947, and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2001.
Mr. Milam was a retired coal minter. He was a 50-year member of the U.M.W.A. Local 1487, a member of the American Legion Post 280, V.F.W. Post 2671 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2898. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Woodside and husband Thad of Du Quoin; a son, Rick Milam and wife Mary of Benton; five grandchildren, Curtis Hodge and Lucas Tyler Meadows, both of Du Quoin, and Ryan Douglas Milam, Erica June Milam and Daniel Reed Milam, all of Benton; a sister, Becky McElroy of California; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, seven brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2001 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton with Pastor Thad Woodside officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
